Forget the motivation, what you need is execution
When
you want to do a difficult job, whether it's preparing a briefing or going to a
long run, it's easy to tell yourself that you need an effective incentive to do
the job. However, usually the problem is not whether there is such an
incentive, but that you lack practical action.
You
may really want to do this. You know it's important, but your mind will pull
you apart. You will tell yourself that you can put it off till tomorrow, or
that you have more urgent things to do first.
Don't
let your mind devour your intentions. Make clear decisions, think clearly about
what you are going to do now, and don't ask yourself why. Tell yourself, I have
to get up and go for a run at 6 tomorrow morning, or I will finish the briefing
by 2 p.m. next Tuesday. If you have struggles in your mind, don't ignore it and
do it.
