You went to a company's job interview and got an offer. However, for various personal reasons, you have decided not to accept the position. At this point, how should you respond?
The most important attitude is that you should show respect. After all, you take the initiative to attend the interview, and the other party must also undergo some assessment before deciding to choose you from a number of candidates. If you ignore the admission notice, who knows what unexpected things will happen in the future?
Following are the steps you should take when you decide to refuse an offer:
- Thank you. For the key executives you met during the job interview, the interviewer, or the decision-maker you know decided to hire, you should at least call to express your heartfelt thanks.
- Give reasons. Explain clearly why you finally decided not to accept the position. This is the most important part of rejection. Be as honest as possible without insulting the other party or its company.
- Keep in touch. Before the end of the conversation, be sure to say you want to keep in touch with each other. You never know who you reject today and what new relationships you will have in your career?!
