It's OK to turn down promotion

Not all professionals want to be promoted. Maybe you want to concentrate more on elderly care at home, or you prefer to be a Freelancer who can work independently. But how do you tell your boss without being lazy or indifferent?

First, think about why you are not interested. Maybe it's not the right time, or you like your present job. Once you have identified your reasons, have a transparent conversation with your boss.

Thank your manager for thinking that you should be promoted and explaining why your current job is well suited to your strengths, skills and goals. Then tell your boss that you still want to grow and offer some advice on how to do this without promotion.

Do you have any new projects to undertake? How to develop skills? Be careful not to say anything that may damage your future prospects; this promotion is not appropriate for you, but the next one may be.
